Diablos
Background
Corregidor is still a prison-ship, though only a tiny fraction of its size is actually dedicated to being a foreign penitentiary.
There are five blocks; A through C block are for 'standard' prisoners. E-block is for foreign prisoners; high-value targets who are paid to be kept in relative luxury on the Corregidor.
D-block is for the most dangerous of all inmates. D-blockers are often violent, psychotic, and the recipients of one too many cybernetic augmentations. It's one thing to get a replacement arm, it's quite another to fill your body with testosterone-deploying glands, neurachem injectors, bone-lacing, and high-voltage electric blades.
It takes a particularly heartless person to even `want` all of those augmentations, and it takes a real bastard to get caught and imprisoned after getting said augs. The result is a relatively small group of prisoners, all of them described as "real jerks," all of them found VERY guilty of VERY violent crimes. This group doesn't just look violent, they are violent. They enjoy violence and like being bullies; they crave the joy of using their personal strength to dominate others.
These are the Diablos of D-Block; prisoners with various heavy mechanical augmentations. Some of them are further juiced up with drugs; others are given extra armor salvaged off of Mobile Brigada units. Many of them wander into battle with almost no armor visible... only for their flesh to peel off during combat, revealing gruesome mech-aug muscles and throbbing plastic tubules.
The simple fact is that many of their augmentations are obsolete, and the opportunity to use them in battle is valuable to the Diablos. They are volunteers; prisoners who have willingly joined Corregidoran military units in exchange for time-off and the chance for some action. This penal regiment is generally given inexpensive weaponry like shotguns, submachine guns, and heavy melee weapons. A few take even larger gear; after all, many Diablos have already modified their bodies, filling them with hidden blades, grenade dispensers, and disposable micro-missile launchers like the flammenspeer. All of them use large-caliber weaponry made possible by their augmentations. Still, the most fearsome place for a Diablo is to be in close-quarters-combat with an enemy. Massive fists hammer with impunity. Electricity courses through their arms, so meaty and thick that they make attacking them back an extremely difficult task.
Diablos are a product of the Corregidor-Prison Pipeline, and also an export. Even after leaving the penal unit, many muscle and augmentation-bound hulks often serve with the CJC as muscle. Diablos is a generic enough term that any Corregidor-based brute can be called Diablos. Regardless of their status, they are often escorted by Lobos to keep them in line. Sometimes it even works.
