Posthuman

Background

It is said that Posthumans are the next evolutionary stage of Humanity. They are the intelligent glimmer, a self-conscious information package focused in a light pulse. Entities living in cyberspace who can download themselves into artificial bodies to act on a physical level. And, obviously, they always have at their disposal the finest Lhosts, biosynthetic bodies, of the market.

Turning into a Posthuman is the greatest reward one can receive from ALEPH. Only those with the greatest merit, or who are especially useful to ALEPH, become Posthumans. As inhabitants of cyberspace, their immortality is guaranteed. Even if their body dies and their Cube is destroyed, they will always have a security backup stored somewhere in the net. The best and most trusted by Aleph collaborate with operations of the Special Situations Section. Each Posthuman is a one-man-team, or better, a one-mind-team. A Posthuman can deploy several of its bodies into an operational zone and jump from one to another, working in perfect synergy to achieve any objectives. The best of them are able to jump so quickly from one body to another that they seem to occupy them all simultaneously. The amazing data processing speed of their mind allows them to receive more information, and from more different sources, than any average human. They can understand any situation and act accordingly with more speed and determination than a mortal.

Posthumans stand out in military activities requiring initiative and a high level of dedication and ability. Thanks to their special skills, they can adopt any operative profile, rotating through different body, equipment and weaponry loadouts. They find it equally easy to infiltrate into deep enemy territory as to lead attacks from the frontline or act as mobile support in emergency situations. No matter the assigned mission, their tactical approach is always based on fast and decisive offensives.

Posthumans know they are superior, existing on a higher level than any human, and therefore they are arrogant and proud. They behave as if they are true sons of divinity, forged by war and destined to conquer the universe.

Regarded by many, either bemoaning the advance of technology or celebrating it, as the next step in the evolutionary ladder, Posthumans represent those highly skilled or valuable individuals provided immortality by ALEPH. Existing within the protective universe of cyberspace, these individuals can take physical form through Lhosts. Typically using the most advanced Bodhisattva model Lhosts when on operation, a single Posthuman is often capable of operating several such bodies by jumping their consciousness almost instanta- neously from one to the next. This provides them with a huge range of flexibility and enables them to successfully take on a range of operation types, from deep immersion missions to tactical roles on a battlefield.

Posthumans are regularly used for SSS operations within the nations they belonged to prior to their physical deaths. This gives them a unique insight into the social milieus they need to operate within and a better awareness of cultural subtleties that could mean the difference between success and failure. With the ability to borrow processing capacity from ALEPH, highly advanced Lhost bodies, and a lifetime of skills already under their belts, Posthumans are highly capable and extremely deadly when required to be so.

The next step in human evolution, a hybrid between artificial and biological intelligence, or something else entirely? Asking three Posthumans what they are will provide several different answers. Classification aside, it’s clear they exist in a state radically different from conventional human norm. Usually, a human mind outside of a dedicated host rapidly experiences sheut shredding. Not so for Posthumans. Like ALEPH itself, their consciousness is distributed throughout Maya nodes, allowing them to freely jump between hosts without side effects. Many Posthuman Savants quantronically jump between multiple Lhosts to tackle situational problems. Whether on a battlefield, in a laboratory, or in a boardroom, Posthuman Savants are a one-mind army that tackle obstacles from countless angles simultaneously.[1]

Known Posthumans

  • Ana QR : Ana was born to a wealthy family on Concilium. She was a collateral victim in an unrelated assasination attempt on Acontecimento, and was given a Bodhisattva Lhost as recompense. Her death transformed her into a thrill-seeker and predator, and she joined the SSS to become a quiet assassin. She is troubled by something.
  • Atropos: Nicknamed "Fate's scissors," a singular assassin. Never uses the word "death" or "kill", referring to mortality as the "thread of life."
  • Paola "Dart" Duarte: Duarte was born to the family controlling the massive hypercorporation Aura Biochemicals, specializing in using natural resources to create biochemical compounds. She grew up loving parties, thrill-seeking activities, and charitable work outdoors. On a whim and bored of partying, she tried her hand at survivalist big game hunting. Hunting provided more thrills and joy than anything else she had experienced, and dedicated her life to preserving the Aconticemento Grand Reserve, and engaging in ever-increasing hunts. Her skill with the bow and love of the chase motivated her to become Aura Biochem's representative, where she spent years as an Aristo in the Aristeia! circuit. The fame that it brought her eventually had ALEPH promote her to a posthuman operative specializing in hunting threats to ALEPH and the Human Sphere. See Dart
  • L7-0N6-29: Acontecimento youth who felt more kinship with ALEPH than the human world. Utterly lacked empathy for other people. Applied and was given status as a Posthuman black-ops specialist.
