Crabbot

Background

TAG regiments—bona fide titans on the battlefield—form the vanguard of any PanOceanian ground strike. But even these formidable war machines couldn’t get far without a correspondingly impressive force of auxiliary teams to keep them serviceable in the thick of combat and to clear the way wherever bulk would be a liability rather than an asset; hence the need for our Tech-Bees and CrabBots. The Maintenance Battalion will keep PanOceanian TAG systems—no matter how specialized—always combat-ready and finely tuned. Moreover, the compact, crab-like Ancillary Remote Units can leverage their cutting-edge technology to save the day by allowing TAG pilots to meet their objectives swiftly and efficiently, even in the cramped environments synonymous with modern urban warfare.

Ancillary Remote Units created during the hyperpower’s transition to remotely piloted TAGs, PanOceanian Crabbots shelter inside a TAG until needed, then detach so their pilots can navigate cramped environments and manipulate otherwise inaccessible elements of the battlefield. With a compact crab-like chassis echoing creatures found in caves beneath the Clausewitz Military Academy, their plain surfaces and modular systems are often upgraded to serve as informal unit mascots and pilot avatars.

Every PanOceanian Military Complex TAG pilot has a degree of leeway over “their” Crabbot’s appearance and components, and most spend a percentage of their pay and time decorating or enhancing it and its replacements when it’s damaged beyond repair. Subcultural traditions vary but are often consistent within a unit. Experienced pilots will purchase idiosyncratic modifications to exploit enemies’ expectations.

Trivia

Although not reflected in Infinity in-game stats, most Crabbots have unique equipment based on their associated TAG. Cutter Crabbots have chameleonwear armor and high-pressure plating. Dragao crabbots have a micro-flamethrower. Jotum deploy a Crabbot that can pick up the host's weapons. Seraph crabbots equip nanopulsers; Squalos have lethal combat-shears and repeaters. Tikbalangs carry one mine, and Uhlans crabbots self-destruct in a conflagration.
