Background

The Gator is a well-armed and heavily armored TAG, perfectly suited for modern armored warfare. Thanks to its enhanced haptic system, the Gator can benefit even more from the physical skills of its pilots, who have been hardened in numerous bar fights in the worst of Corregidor’s modules.[1]

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue: Nomad criteria for selecting military TAGs are reminiscent of this old wedding tradition, only replacing blue with red, obviously. Even though they have the Black Labs and top researchers such as the ArTecnodivarius group, since they are a wandering, space-faring nation, their mass-production capabilities are limited. For this reason, to provide its armed forces with military TAGs the Nomad Nation has always resorted to acquiring older series almost at the end of their service life, which are also quick to procure, well-tested, easy to maintain, and very inexpensive. This is the bride's "something old." These series were entrusted to the Nomad technological geniuses, who would always find a way to upgrade and optimize them, turning them into fully operational units with top-of-the-line capabilities on a par with anyone else's. This is the bride's "something new."

But of course, they're still Nomads, which means that their competitive advantage isn't limited to their own intellectual property; in some cases, they also rely on innovations developed by others. Sometimes they pay for these innovations and sometimes they don't. It's a well-known fact that there is practically no Nomad technology firm that isn't currently involved in litigation for industrial espionage. This is the bride's "something borrowed."

Thus, when the time came to replace the Baozhão ("Panther Claw") series TAGs that the Nomad Military Force had successfully used up to the NeoColonial Wars, they stuck to policy. The company that landed the contract, Supremechanics, chose the Reptile series, which WarTechWorks was about to discontinue, as the core range on which to base the TAGs that modern times require. Within this series, the Gator model was the medium combat TAG, a multipurpose war machine designed to become the core element of any armored strike force.

However, time and developments in warfare technology, especially after the boost of the NeoColonial Wars, undermined this TAG's operational capability and rendered it obsolete. Yet the end of its service life was not inevitable, at least not from the Nomad perspective. Former WarTechWorks senior engineer Anaika Dandekar was very familiar with the capabilities and systems of the TAGs manufactured by that PanOceanian corporation, and, as founder of Supremechanics, she had a wealth of great ideas and access to the kind of cutting-edge resources that are rarely found outside of Praxis. So, she replaced the neural-connection wetware device with one developed in collaboration with a Black Lab that greatly improved the haptic performance of the Gator. Fully experimental in nature, this was the type of system that required a two-year-long approval process to obtain O-12's authorization to be used and marketed. In spite of this, Supremechanics installed this device straightaway, without applying for homologation, which later resulted in a delay of O-12's authorization for its international distribution, as a penalty for bypassing the procedure. This was not the only controversy involving the Gator, as the corporation Gang Tie accused Supremechanics of violating patent laws with the multi-component armor used on the Gator to make it more resistant to the piercing power of the ammunition developed after the NeoColonial Wars. After several years of litigation, the lawsuit filed by the Yujingyu corporation before the High Court of O-12 is still active and has not been settled, so Supremechanics can still use this innovative armor without paying a license fee for it.

Other upgrades implemented on the Gator are focused on the external sensor devices connected to the targeting systems (as they were relatively poor in the original), thus providing this TAG with greater firing accuracy and improved lethality in combat. In addition, the Gator features a Nomad hall mark: a state-of-the-art cyberdefense anti-intrusion system that makes it a difficult target for any enemy hacker. Thanks to its enhanced haptic system, the Gator can benefit even more from the physical skills of its pilots, who have been hardened in numerous bar fights in the worst of Corregidor's modules. It can be safely said that, thanks to the upgrades and the comprehensive overhaul of certain systems and components carried out by Supremechanics, the current Gator is a well-armed and heavily armored TAG, perfectly suited for modern armored warfare.

The perfect combination of something new, something old, something borrowed, and something red that any Nomad bride would love to take into combat.
