“The Big Guy.”
“The Heavy.”
“The Bruiser.”

Diggers represent any mercenary with a suit of powered armor and a background in brawling.

Mining in the Human Sphere is frequently done by automated machines, remote presence drones, and occasionally armored TAGs - also often remote presence devices. But there are still needs for prospectors. Asteroid rock-hoppers, “moles” who work on planetary surfaces. These diggers are hard folks. Hard times breed hard men; hard men make for hard fighters.

Every prospector has someone in their life who got “covered up” - killed by being buried alive in a collapse, a gas leak, a fire, or an explosion. Most also have experienced violence in their life - usually at the hands of robbers and outlaws, as most of these independent prospectors work at the periphery of “civilized” space. Prospectors learn to defend against bandits, outlaws, Ariadnan governments-in-exile, and hired corporate mercenaries who make a profit by harming their competition.

For many, it’s simply not worth it.

And for some, they decide to make some extra cash by being the armored boot. They take their powered suits and advanced lifting suites and use them for Violence. These are Diggers, Armed Prospectors. They took their exoskeletons and ran, engaging in activities - often targeting their own kind - full-time for themselves, rather than for a corporate overlord.

Some groups train their own Diggers; recruiting the toughest fighters from mining raids or simply equipping their biggest, scariest, heaviest folks with a cheap exoskeleton and whatever guns are lying around. The Druze Society is known to give their most vicious close-combat fighters armored suits; StarCo and Dashat utilize Diggers on construction sites. Contracted Back-Up takes professional soldiers (or psychotic cybernetic criminals) and sets them loose screaming from drop pods. It seems insanely dangerous and unpleasant. But ask any Prospector and they’ll tell you. Anything is better than being covered up.
